'An emergency generated by fake news'

With Italy recording nearly three times as many measles cases so far this year than the whole of 2016, the Italian Government has decreed that if children are not vaccinated by the age of six, their parents will be fined.

Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin (pictured right) claimed that the current measles epidemic, and declining vaccination rates were an ’emergency generated by fake news’, while Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni blamed declining vaccination rates in part on the ‘spread of anti-scientific theories’.
