Attitudes to vaccination in Europe

A literature review conducted by researchers from RAND Europe, St Mary’s Hospital London, the University of Sussex and the Open University has found that, of a variety of reasons for hesitancy or mistrust of immunisation ‘fear of adverse side effects and vaccine safety’ appears to be most the common concern amongst members of the public (Image top right).

Worrying, this same concern was the common reason why health professionals were hesitant to be immunised themselves (Image bottom left).

In the same report, market research data including a survey of 4015 adults across Germany, France, Spain and the UK found that since the influenza pandemic of 2009, public confidence in immunisation, pharmaceutical companies and Government health campaigns had decreased (Image bottom right)
