Oestrogen may weaken the flu virus in women

A new study in the American Journal of Physiology suggests that the influenza virus’s ability to replicate in women is reduced by oestrogen.

Professor Sabra Klein, of John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore suggests that the hormone shields women from feeling the full effects of the flu virus, although it does not protect against the virus itself.
