The International Federation on Ageing (IFA), and the Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) along with various leading UK patient and health advocacy organisations have recently published a consensus statement and report produced from findings from an expert meeting: “Forum to Explore the Role of Patient Organisations in Vaccination”. The materials produced from the meeting place focus on the important role UK advocacy organisations play in promoting health through vaccination, and what barriers exist that must be addressed.
Alongside regular exercise, enjoying a varied diet and avoiding tobacco, immunisation is a tried, tested and effective means of staying healthy throughout the life course and a key component of healthy ageing. However, the uptake of adult immunisation is not consistent across the UK, and adults in at-risk groups may not necessarily know or ask about vaccination.
The conference will bring together a range of industry experts to share knowledge and perspectives on the issue of falling vaccination rates and will seek to facilitate better understanding as to why vaccination rates are declining.
